John D. Schiller Jr. earned his BS degree with honors in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1981.He founded Energy XXI (Bermuda) Limited in 2005, and served as the company's Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President.  He resigned from the company in February 2017.  Schiller began his career at Superior Oil in 1981 and held various positions there and at Burlington Resources before becoming Senior Vice President of Operation for Seagull Energy. He served as Vice President of Exploration and Development for Devon Energy with responsibility for domestic and international activities, and as Executive Vice President of Exploration and Production for Ocean Energy, Inc., overseeing Ocean's worldwide exploration, production and drilling activities. Schiller was inducted into the Texas A&M University Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering's Academy of Distinguished Graduates in 2008, and was named the 2014 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

John is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas, a member of the Texas A&M University Dwight Look College of Engineering Advisory Board, and a charter member and past Chairman of the Texas A&M University Petroleum Engineering Industry Board. He is a member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and is a member of the Board of the National Ocean Industries Association. Schiller currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Houston Alley Theatre and Escape Family Resource Center, both charitable organizations.

John and his wife, Kristi, and their daughter reside in College Station.
